The Social Service Assistant (SSA) positions are located within the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. MHRRTP is housed in Building 123. There are 7 subprograms within MHRRTP with a bed capacity of 189 residents in building 123, with approximately 90 staff providing treatment to male and female Veterans with complex medical, psychiatric, substance abuse, and homelessness problems. The Social Services Assistant provides coverage 24 hours a day/7 days a week on a rotational basis. The SSA performs administrative duties in support of the mission of the MHRRTP.

Major Duties:
-Assists the MHRRTP Program Manager in the daily aspects of the MHRRTP by performing administrative tasks such as receiving, orienting, and discharging residents, and maintaining and enforcing discipline, safety, health and security measures of the residents according to policy and procedures of the medical center, MHRRTP programs, and interdisciplinary treatment decisions.
-Performs administrative work in support of care and treatment of residents such as processing passes, assuring linen is available, monitoring resident logs, ensuring keys are accounted for, and assisting residents with room problems.
-Orients newly admitted residents by explaining domiciliary policies, procedures and expectations.
-Conducts daily room inspections for health, welfare, safety and security purposes and documents findings in the appropriate location.
-Conducts Environment of Care rounds/inspections to check physical building equipment, health and safety, and security problems per MHRRTP policy.
-Assists with communications within the Domiciliary and ensures only appropriate information is released in accordance with Patient confidentiality rules.
-Brings problems and concerns to the attention of management for resolution when the incumbent cannot resolve on their own.
-Treats staff, visitors and residents with a variety of physical, mental, emotional and behavioral problems in a courteous and positive manner and conforms to ethical standards.
-Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday 11:30pm-8:00am with rotating weekends
